The Fit Meter is a accessory that calculates the steps you take. Pets can also use them. Fit Meters use IR connection to connect to the Wii U Gamepad to send the calculated steps to Wii Fit U on the Wii U.
Once you've registered a Fit Meter in Wii Fit U, you'll unlock a mode in the home of the game called "Fit Meter Challenge". In this mode, you'll use Fit Meter data you've transfered into the Gamepad to try out either Walking or Altitude Challenges.
